In November of this year 2021 I are planning on packing my life together and move into a van. You are now reading this, because I want to share all of my experience with you. As I are starting from scratch, you will follow me on our journey as I embark on this new journey. I am sharing everything from renting a van for a week just to get the feel of it, to when I actually move into the van in November, and everything thereon after.

For a long time, I have had a dream of becoming a digital nomad and joining the van life community. A dream of living and working full time out of a self converted van. Traveling the world while living a life free of modern day norms and all excess baggage, experiencing new places and cultures, all while working full time so I don’t have to brake up my travels with big “work breaks”. I have a plan for how this is going to work. But first, a bit about me.

Meet Tomas

My name is Tomas and I am 31 years old. Originally from Denmark but now living on my sixth year on Costa del Sol i Spain. I am already somewhat of a digital nomad as I have been working 100% online for the past seven years or so. Van life is something I have been thinking about and planning for the past two years, and finally it seems closer than ever.

Ever since i started dreaming about van life, it was all a one man plan. That was until I met my partner in crime, girlfriend and fellow van-life enthusiast, Jeanette.

The Van Life plan

So what’s the plan you ask? Let’s break it down.

  1. Sometime before I leave, I need to test the van for a week or so. I do currently not have a date set because of the COVID situation which means I cannot travel anywhere. But as soon as I can, we will let you know.
  2. I need to sell or give away all the belongings I do not wish to take with me. Clothes, TVs, computers, car, motorcycles etc. I have a lot!
  3. 1. Nov 2021 is my last day in my house. By this date I need to be completely packed into the van, and all other earthly belongings will have to be either sold or given away. This is also the day van life officially starts. I will set off, to a currently unknown destination, maybe Tarifa. More on that later.

So why this blog? It’s quite simple actually.

I would like to take whoever cares to read it, with me on the journey, not only for the actual van life part, but everything leading up to it. Going into details with how I end up doing it all, from van rental and eventually building my own, to how I are going to work on the road, and ultimately how to become a complete 100% digital nomad, living in a van wherever the view and weather takes me.

The plan is to not only take you along for a the ride via blog posts but also YouTube videos, posts on a range of social media platforms and maybe even an e-book one day. You’re very welcome to follow along already now – you’ll find all the links right below.

See you on The Vanture!
